Welcome to the Centre!
The building hosts over 120 staff (in it over 40 researchers) with public education facilities, such as Library (with collections of clippings from 1970s, books, journals, magazines, etc), Bookshop, Conference facilities (for 20 to 600 participants), Visiting scholars temporary apartments, etc.
The building is also home for numerous works of arts by some of Indonesia's most talented artists. Paintings and sculptures are scattered neatly throughout each floor. The original CSIS symbol, in bronze, (located on the first floor between the Library and the Bookshop) was designed by Indonesia's renowned sculptor G. Sidharta and comprises a disc with an engraving of the globe, which serves as a backdrop to a youth with an open book on a cloth draped across his lap. His left hand is marking the book and his right hand is raised upwards.
All these elements combine to project the Centre's nature as an institution, where people think, learn and share their knowledge. Mankind is their concern and the world their horizon. The undressed torso symbolises open-mindedness and the absence of prejudice. "Nalar Ajar Terusan Budi", the inscription on the disc, conveys the Centre's belief that "to think and share knowledge are the natural consequences of an enlightened mind."
A fountain below the original symbol symbolizes the eternal fountain of knowledge that is open for and welcomes anyone who wishes to quench his/her thirst of knowledge. A wooden sculpture that symbolizes Pancasila, our nations's Five Basic Principles, is placed elegantly on the second floor, where all the seminars and discussions are usually held. The five patterns of this sculpture are also partially reflected on our website top banner.
This album will take you to a brief journey inside the Centre, starting from the gate to my personalized office room on the fourth floor.
The Centre is literally my second home, as I spent more time here than I should have. :o) Come and see what lurks inside the Centre. :o)
Come and see what lurks inside my room... (quite messy, i must warn you... :o))) I’m gonna show off my DOOR that is covered with “interesting” stuff, my BOOKS, my DESK, my SHRINE, where I put all of my KEY CHAINS collection and other SOUVENIRS from different parts of the world that I have visited or GIFTS from several visiting scholars that have become my dearest friends or NAME TAGS from each conference I have attended.
